Bio

Janire Pascual-Gonzalez (she/her/hers) joins the Public Administration and International Affairs Department in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in fall 2024 as a research assistant professor.

Prior to joining Syracuse University, Pascual-Gonzalez was a post-doctoral researcher at the Center for Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engineering, Department of Engineering at the East Carolina University-constituent institution of the University of North Carolina. Prior to that, she served as a post-doctoral researcher at Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain.

Pascual-Gonzalez’s research focuses on net-zero transitions and quantifying and evaluating the U.S. biobased economy with specific focus on chemicals, energy, fuels and consumer products, and the environmental and economic implications spanning from agriculture, climate and water to economics and job growth as well as trade.

She is a published author on reports for agencies of the U.S. government as well as peer-reviewed journal articles. Pascual-Gonzalez is currently senior project manager on a recent 5-year USDA Climate Smart Commodities grant of $60 million. Additionally, Pascual-Gonzalez has been called upon to give presentations on her work, most recently in Washington, D.C., in November 2023 serving on a panel with the governor of Nebraska and the highest ranked political appointee for USDA-ORD.

Pascual-Gonzalez received the 2019 Centennial Award for Excellence in Spirit from East Carolina University. She earned a Ph.D. in 2015 in chemical, environmental and process engineering, a master's in chemical engineering and processes in 2011, and a bachelor’s in chemical engineering in 2009 from Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain.
