"Toilet Talk: NGO advocacy and communications strategies to reprioritize an unpopular issue -- the case of diarrheal disease"PATH is a large public health focused transnational NGO, with headquarters in Seattle, USA. It focuses in a fairly unique way on advancing health sector innovations, including in technology, in the Global South, in addition to strengthening health systems and encouraging healthy behaviors. It collaborates extensively with public as well as private-sector partners (health technology companies). Ms. Hayes, whose expertise is in advocacy and communications strategies,  has worked for the last ten years with international and US-based NGOs, donors, low-income country governments and communities, as well as media outlets, to create innovative and effective advocacy and communications campaigns with regard to health, gender, anti-corruption, conflict resolution and education issues.  Janie has served as Communications Director for a Malawian media NGO, and worked as a communications consultant in Africa for numerous organizations, including UNICEF and USAID, among others. She received her master's degree in Radio-TV-Film from Northwestern University in Chicago.

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”
