John Bishop, Dept. of HR Studies, ILR School, Cornell University, has published numerous articles on education reform, the impact of the quality of education on the productivity of individuals and nations, the impact of the hiring, training, and promotion policies of business on incentives for students to study and schools to set high standards, the determinants of and payoffs to employer training, and the effectiveness of institutions that match workers and jobs. Professor Bishop is also Executive Director of the Educational Excellence Alliance, a consortium of 300 high schools in 5 northeastern states that are studying ways to improve school climate and school engagement. His paper can be downloaded from https://www.maxwell.syr.edu/EFAP_calendar/ This event is free and open to the SU community; no reservation is required. A reception follows the lecture. Sponsored by the Education Finance and Policy project (EFAP) and named in honor of Emeritus Professor of Economics Jerry Miner, an EFAP faculty associate who is widely known for his research in public finance in general and education finance in particular, and who may be the only person on earth who understands the New York State Education Aid formulas. We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
