Middle Eastern Studies Program Presents: Kamran Scot Aghaie Kamran Scot Aghaie Islam and Religious Nationalisms in Iran and the Muslim Middle East Kamran Scot Aghaie is associate professor of Islamic and Iranian History at the University of Texas at Austin, and is currently serving as Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies. His main publications include three volumes: The Martyrs of Karbala: Shi‘i Symbols and Rituals in Modern Iran. (Seattle: University of Washington Press, 2004), The Women of Karbala: The Gender Dynamics of Ritual Performances and Symbolic Discourses of Modern Shi‘i Islam. (Austin: University of Texas Press, 2005), and Mourning and Memory. (co-edited with Rebecca Saunders) a special issue of the Journal Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East (SCSAAME), 25.1 (2005), published by Duke University Press. He is currently completing a multi-authored book project (co-edited with Afshin Marashi) on Rethinking Iranian Nationalism and Modernity.
