East Asia Program Presents Jing Lin on China's Fargmented Urban Pension System
East Asia Graduate Student Forum

China has a rapidly aging population with a growing number of retired workers, which poses a major challenge for the country’s urban pension system. The current policies, introduced twenty years ago, are inadequate for several reasons. How does the pension system work? What does it tell us about political and fiscal issues in China? What are the prospects for reforming the pension system?

Jing Lin is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Political Science Program at the Maxwell School. She received her undergraduate degree from Renmin University in Beijing. This talk draws on her summer 2013 field research in China.
