Sara Connolly and Hussein Kassim, University of East Anglia

Can the New EU Commission Save Europe?

The European Commission is viewed historically as the motor of European integration, but is portrayed frequently as technocratic, monolithic, and unaccountable. Drs. Connolly and Kassim will discuss the development of the Commission in light of its new membership, which was approved by the European Parliament this month, and the ongoing economic difficulties in the EU. Dr. Connolly is Reader in Personnel Economics at the Norwich Business School and Director of the Diversity and Equality in Careers and Employment Research Centre at the University of East Anglia and Dr. Kassim is Professor in the Department of Political, Social and International Studies at the University of East Anglia.  They are co-authors of The European Commission of the Twenty-First Century (Oxford University Press, 2013).

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
