Natures of Practice: The Work of the Agri-Horticultural Society of Punjab (1851-1885)

Formed in 1849 by the East India Company, the Agri-Horticultural Society of Punjab (AHSP) sought to modernize agricultural practices and expand production in the region. The AHSP’s discourses of modernization and improvement are crucially placed within the histories of environmental reform in nineteenth century colonial India. Rehman will show how constructions of nature, notions of technical expertise, and new urban subjectivities were circulated, assembled, and contested within the AHSP’s terrain of practice.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
