SAC presents : Loha Garam Hai (The Iron is Hot) (2008) and Gaon Chhodab Nahi (We Will Not Leave Our Village) (2009)

Followed by a discussion with Meghnath and Biju Toppo, directors, and Gunjal Munda, community activist.

Loha Garam Hai presents a scathing critique of India's most polluting industry—the sponge iron industry—and of industrialization gained at the cost of human lives and the environment.

Gaon Chhodab Nahi, a delightful, popular music video captures the marginalization of adivasis (tribal people) across  India due to development projects.

Both documentaries were produced by Akhra, a pioneering group that has been producing films on adivasi  issues since 1995.

Movies will have English Subtitles

Sponsored by the South Asia Center at the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
