This is a kick-off meeting for students and faculty to learn about the Sustainable Syracuse Research Film Festival and Competition being held in April 2023.
Students from the Newhouse School and the College of Visual and Performing Arts as well as others interested in developing visual media will be introduced and teamed with undergraduate and graduate student researchers of multiple disciplines from across the Syracuse and ESF campuses conducting sustainability research so they can form teams to enter the Sustainable Syracuse Film Festival. Winners will receive prize money.
The inaugural film festival will be a campus-wide event with internal and external judges, and will be part of the larger Sustainable Syracuse week with research poster competitions and a guest speaker in early April.
The visual media (film and/or animation) will be between five to eight minutes long and will capture the sustainability issue the students are tackling including their findings. Features can be humorous, documentary, investigative, etc. No need for expensive film equipment as we will use iPhones.

We’re Turning 100!
To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”
Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
