Brian Powell, James H. Rudy Professor of Sociology, Indiana University, will present, "WHO SHOULD PAY? Higher Education, Responsibility, and the Public" as part of the CPR Seminar Series (co-sponsored with Sociology).

Abstract:

Who should be responsible for the cost of college?  Students? Their parents? The government?  Should tuition at public universities be free?  Should student loan debt be forgiven? Is college worth the costs?  Is college accessible to all who are qualified? These are among the questions that Brian Powell and his research team have asked thousands of Americans since 2010. He will discuss Natasha Quadlin and his book "WHO SHOULD PAY? Responsibility, Higher Education and the Public," which discusses how Americans responded to these questions and how their views on higher education have changed in a short period of time.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
