Eggers Hall, 220

Add to: Outlook, ICal, Google Calendar

The Moynihan Institute’s East Asia Program presents a workshop by Jia Man of Le Moyne College.

Ikebana is the centuries-old Japanese art of arranging flowers. This workshop will give you a taste of Ikebana. Jia Man will introduce the basic principles, history and philosophy of Ikebana in an easy-to-understand way and explore different Ikebana styles. In addition to learning techniques of Ikebana, the workshop will focus on mindfulness and relaxation. Students will create their own Ikebana arrangements and be encouraged to approach their arrangement with a sense of calm and peace.

Jia Man is an adjunct professor of Chinese and Japanese language and East Asian culture at Le Moyne College. In addition to her academic work, Jia is an accomplished practitioner of Japanese Ikebana (Zen flower arrangement) and Chinese and Japanese calligraphy. She is a member of Ikebana International NY and joined the Ikebana International shows in person in 2022 (Paris & London) and 2023 (Brussels) and was recently selected for the 2023 online shows by Ikebana International NY and Delhi Ikebana International.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
