CACI Movie Night: ‘Siberia din Oase’ (Siberia in the Bones)

Based on true stories, “Siberia din Oase” (Siberia in the Bones) examines the horrors endured by thousands of Moldovans who were deported to Siberia during the Stalin regime. The film is structured around the testimonies of four protagonists who were children during those dark times, and commemorates 70 years since the 1949 Deportation.

The movie was produced in Moldova in 2019 by the director Leontina Vatamanu whose mother was one of the girls put on the train to Siberia together with her family.

The movie screening is initiated by Cristina Virlan, 2023-2024 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship participant from Moldova at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
