Fernando Riosmena (University of Texas at San Antonio) will present “Cumulative Disadvantage and the Aging of Mexican Immigrants in the United States” as part of the CPR Seminar Series. This event is co-sponsored by the Sociology Department.

Abstract: This talk examines the association between life course disadvantage and disability trajectories in mobility/self-care and independent-living among older Mexican immigrants in the United States. Using the Health and Retirement Study, we also pay particular attention to the role of likely undocumented status. Findings suggest that individuals with a higher level of childhood disadvantages experience accelerated disability-related aging, especially immigrants who are likely undocumented.
