The State of Democracy Lecture Series will present Dave Zirin, Sports Editor for The Nation, a progressive magazine dedicated to politics and culture. Zirin writes a blog for the magazine named Edge of Sports,a weekly sports column, where he covers the politics of sports. In his lecture, he will discuss his new book, "The Kaepernick Effect: Taking A Knee, Changing The World." The book contains riveting and inspiring first-person stories of how 'taking a knee' triggered an awakening in sports (The New Press, 2021).

Reception and book signing will follow the lecture. This lecture series is coordinated by the Campbell Public Affairs Institute. A Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) will be available. If you require additional accommodations, please contact Jackie Nocevski at Jjnocevs@syr.edu or 315.443.5850 or 9707.

We’re Turning 100!

To mark our centennial in the fall of 2024, the Maxwell School will hold special events and engagement opportunities to celebrate the many ways—across disciplines and borders—our community ever strives to, as the Oath says, “transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

Throughout the year leading up to the centennial, engagement opportunities will be held for our diverse, highly accomplished community that now boasts more than 38,500 alumni across the globe.
