Environmental Peacebuilding in the Middle East: The Dialogue Project with Odeliya Matter and Mohammed Abusaada

Odeliya Matter and Mohammed Abusaada are alumni of the Arava Institute. At the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, students from Israel, Palestine, Jordan, the United States and around the world come together to solve some of the greatest environmental conflicts of our time. The Dialogue Project of the Arava Institute brings alumni to communities across the globe to discuss how cooperation is possible and essential in addressing issues of environmental justice and sustainability. This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Environmental Studies at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC) . This is a conference call hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations. The Academic Conference Call series provides the opportunity for students across the country and around the world to participate in an interactive conversation with a CFR fellow, Foreign Affairs author, or other expert. Calls take place every other week during the fall and spring semesters and are dedicated to a wide range of international affairs and U.S. foreign policy topics. Background readings are distributed prior to each call, and the audio recording is posted online afterward. The speaker for this conference call is Elizabeth C. Economy, C.V. Title: Interest-Based Problem Solving When: October 12, 2019 Where: 204 Maxwell Hall Description: How do you get beyond “this is what I want” and “this is what you want” in a conflict? How do you identify creative solutions to problems? Interest-Based Problem Solving is an approach to addressing conflict that seeks to identify and satisfy the underlying interests of all parties. This interactive workshop focuses on the basic steps of Interest-Based Problem Solving by equipping you with the tools and skills for identifying interests, reframing problems, and generating and deciding on mutually satisfying solutions. Sponsored by the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC). Facilitated by: Todd Dickey, Assistant Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs, and faculty associate in the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC) at the Maxwell School, Syracuse University. State of Democracy Lecture: Indivisible Project

Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg, both co-founders and co-Executive Directors of the Indivisible Project, and authors of the forthcoming book, We Are Indivisible: A Blueprint for Democracy After Trump. Ezra and Leah are Indivisible Civics that support civic education and leadership development for local Indivisible groups by offering trainings, facilitating regional group coordination, building partnerships, demystifying federal and state policy processes, and supporting voter registration. Pioneers in their work and bold leaders as activists and political organizers, they are an ideal fit for a lecture series that is framed around Democracy.
