Senator Elizabeth Warren has proposed a wealth tax as part of her presidential campaign, a plan that would shift the burden of paying for government toward families that have accumulated fortunes and create new challenges in ensuring compliance for the IRS. In the New York Times article "Elizabeth Warren Wants a Wealth Tax. How Would That Even Work?," Len Burman, Paul Volcker Chair in Behavioral Economics, suggests eliminating a provision of current law in which assets that increase in value can go essentially untaxed across generations as a way to reduce inequality. 02/18/19
