Republican Governors Ron DeSantis (Florida) and Greg Abbott (Texas) have bused thousands of migrants to Democratic-led cities, including New York City and Chicago. These cities are now facing a "crisis" situation as their social service and shelter systems become overwhelmed with the influx of people.
Elizabeth Cohen, professor of political science, says that "stunts like busing and chartering flights to remove immigrants from states like Florida and Texas are not planned first and foremost for the purpose of relocating immigrants in places where they can get their bearings and begin their new lives. The purpose is to generate dehumanizing headlines and discussions."
