Gadarian Weighs In on Trump Administration’s Rollback of Federal Research Grants in Yahoo News Piece

The Trump administration has aggressively cut federal research funding, leading to the cancellation of numerous grants, including those for climate change, LGBTQ health and biomedical research. The cuts, justified as cost-saving measures, have already led to job losses and halted research at major institutions.
Experts warn that these actions could damage the U.S.'s global standing in scientific research, with other countries potentially stepping in to fill the gap.
“The American university system is a jewel,” says Shana Gadarian, professor of political science and associate dean for research. “People come here from all over the world to study, and the federal government does not pick winners and losers in terms of what people should study. They leave it up to scientists and people with expertise, which leads to a great deal of innovation.“
