While doing careful statistical work is essential to quantitative social scientists, it’s just as important to communicate our results honestly and effectively. Associate Professor Sarah Hamersma’s concept of “statistical grammar” pushes us to recognize some important rules for careful writing and speaking, helping us resist the temptation to overstate our certainty about our estimates and preventing misunderstandings about our conclusions.
