"Delta Democracy: Pathways to Incremental Civic Revolution in Egypt Beyond" (Oxford University Press, 2020), written by Associate Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs Catherine Herrold, was reviewed in Democratization.

"Methodologically, the strengths of the book lie in the richness of the author’s qualitative insights and her transparent discussion of her evolving research questions," writes Saskia Brechenmacher of the University of Cambridge.

"She compellingly describes how she adjusted her thinking and approach as the political situation in Egypt changed between 2010 and 2017, thereby modelling how to conduct qualitative research in a rapidly evolving context. Theoretically, the book’s most powerful contribution lies in foregrounding the understandings of democracy articulated by organizations that work with marginalized populations," Brechenmacher says.
