Jean Mercier co-authors book on sustainable urban transport

Jean Mercier ’82 PhD (PA) co-authored Governance and Sustainable Urban Transport in the Americas. The book, published by Palgrave-Pivot, explores the governance patterns of three cities in the Americas: Seattle, Montreal, and Curritiba, Brazil. Utilizing theories such as path dependency, institutional culture, and transaction costs, the authors explore how each of these cities responds differently to common challenges in sustainable urban transport.
Mercier is an adjunct professor of political science at the l’Université Laval. Recently retired from teaching, Mercier has spent his entire academic career at l’Université Laval, where he previously served as chair of the Department of Political Science. He has received more than 20 research grants, authored five books, and published a substantial number of articles. His current research focuses on public policy, sustainable urban transport, greenhouse gas reduction policies, assisted death policies, and interpretative methods.
