The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the National Security Studies Program welcomed the largest class to the National Security Management Course in its 23-year history. The program came to the Maxwell School in 1996 and today is regarded as the premier national security program of its kind anywhere in the United States.

Over 60 participants from the military and civilian sectors gathered for a two-week executive educational experience from April 22 to May 3. Among the 40 public and private sector speakers for this year’s course were former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell, Ambassador Chris Hill, journalist Peter Bergen, former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, and Gen. Russel Honoré.

The course uses lectures, discussions, case studies, and simulations tailored to help mid-career professionals develop the skills to be better equipped to deal with strategic and operational matters associated with national security. Upon completion, participants receive a certification in national security management. 

NSMC is one of many Executive Education programs at the Maxwell School, preparing leaders for a global community through midcareer degree and certificate programs, and customized executive training in public administration, international relations, and related fields study.
