August 24, 2017

Humphrey Fellows 2017-18 Executive Education welcomes the ninth cohort of Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows, who are spending the 2017-2018 year at the Maxwell School in graduate academic study, professional development, networking and cultural exchange. The twelve fellows are mid-career professionals from emerging democracies and developing countries and among the more than 150 scholars selected for this prestigious Fellowship.  The Humphrey Fellowship program is sponsored and funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education.

The 2017-2018 Humphrey Fellowship Program consists of 150+ Fellows from 97 countries hosted by 13 U.S. universities. The Maxwell School has hosted 100 fellows from more than 62 countries since 2009.

This year’s fellows hail from: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Guinea, Haiti, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Macedonia, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. Their diverse professional experience and academic interests include: NGO management; international development, anti-corruption, policymaking and analysis; IT policy and management; legislative research; human resource management; and collaborative governance.

“The Humphrey Fellows add to the embodiment of global citizenship, which is a hallmark of the Maxwell School, with their diverse professional backgrounds, nationalities and perspectives.  They are at Syracuse University to engage with students and faculty in any number of ways; to expand their networks and participate in professional and cultural exchange within the community,” says Margaret Lane, director of the Humphrey Fellowship Program and assistant director of Executive Education.

This engagement takes many forms, including connecting with a diverse mix of students, faculty, community members and professionals.  Humphrey Fellows are available as resources for faculty, classes, clubs and organizations.  Contact Margaret Lane at melane02@syr.edu for more information.
