Megan Edenfeld, a Maxwell student majoring in international relations and economics, recently completed an internship with the U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C., where she joined an interagency task force on man-portable air defense systems.
Edenfeld's article, "Securing International Airspace Through U.S.-funded Training Programs," was published on the U.S. State Department's blog, DipNote.
"Illicitly proliferated Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) and Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, or All-purpose Tactical Guided Missiles (ATGMs), continue to pose risks to international skies," writes Edenfeld. "Small and portable, MANPADS and ATGMs are incredibly lethal and carry with them sensitive advanced technology. With the safety of commercial and military aircraft at stake, securing airspace is a priority for the U.S. government and partner and Allied governments worldwide," she says.
