Michael John Williams Named Treasurer of International Studies Association

The association is a hub for networking, programmatic initiatives and the exchange of ideas in international studies teaching and practice.
Michael John Williams, associate professor of public administration and international affairs and director of the master of arts in international relations program, has been named treasurer of the International Studies Association (ISA).
Established in 1959, the ISA is an interdisciplinary association focused on international, transnational and global affairs. The ISA has over 7,000 members across 100 countries and includes academics, practitioners, policy experts, private sector workers and independent researchers. Through its annual convention, regional conferences and seven academic journals, the association promotes discussion, research and writing on wide-ranging topics within international studies. The association also offers various funding and mentorship opportunities.
Williams is director of both the International Affairs Seminar Series and the Carnegie-Maxwell Policy Planning Lab (PPL) in the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs at Maxwell. He was also a 2023 NATO Security Studies Fulbright Fellow at the Brussels School of Governance in Belgium for four months to advance his research on NATO-Russia relations.
Williams is a senior nonresident fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States, an associate of the foreign policy thinktank LSE IDEAS and editor-in-chief of International Politics. He is the author of three books and has a forthcoming book titled, “International Security: Theory and Practice” (Cambridge University Press, 2025). He teaches classes on international relations, state diplomacy, and grand strategy and international actors and issues.
