Monnat weighs in on Central New York COVID-19 deaths in Syracuse.com article

During December in Onondaga County, COVID-19 far outstripped the monthly average deaths from the typical leading cause of death: heart disease. "To keep things in perspective, there have been 330 COVID deaths in the county over the whole year so far," says Shannon Monnat, Lerner Chair for Public Health Promotion. "There are still far more deaths annually from heart disease and cancer," she adds. But, "If these numbers are similar for 2020," Monnat says, “COVID will be the third-leading cause of death in the county this year."
