New edition of Maxwell Perspective features alumni journalists
August 8, 2018
The spring edition of Maxwell Perspective, now being mailed to alumni and other friends of the School, contains a cover-story focus on journalism’s role the functioning of a healthy American democracy. Reflection on that topic is provided by prominent national journalists who received a degree from Maxwell — among them, CBS’s Jeff Glor and, at NBC and formerly Fox News, Megyn Kelly. While Kelly’s only Syracuse University degree is from Maxwell (in political science), most of the journalists featured have dual degrees from Maxwell and SU’s Newhouse School, and the cover story serves to highlight how the proximity of the two schools and availability of dual majors in communications and public affairs help deepen careers in journalism.
Among other articles in the magazine is a report on Maxwell’s X Lab; an appreciation of the Goekjian Summer Scholars program; a profile of faculty member Jennifer Karas Montez; a summary of new and enhanced programming at Maxwell’s Washington, D.C. outpost; and a history piece on how the international Model UN program was founded 90 years ago at Maxwell. Donor Gerry Cramer, who passed away in February, is also remembered.
All those articles and others are now available in the Maxwell Perspective section of this website.
