The one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a time for reflection for many experts in the world of foreign affairs, including Brian Taylor, professor of political science professor and expert in Russian politics.
For Taylor, the biggest take from the one-year anniversary is Ukraine is still standing. "A year ago a lot of people might not have expected that, given Russia’s size, the size of the population, the size of its army, the size of its economy," he says.
Taylor credits the determination of the Ukrainian people as well as the strength of a western alliance, standing up to a war of colonial domination. While Ukraine has stood fast, it does not mean an end to the war is in sight. Taylor says despite Russian military goals falling short, President Vladimir Putin remains all in.
