With two weeks left until the election, Grant Reeher, professor of political science, discusses the latest in the race for the White House.

In the Newsweek article, “Kamala Harris' Poll Lead Trails Biden and Clinton's at Same Stage,” Reeher says, Harris is “is performing better in the national polls versus the battleground states, which tells me she is racking up more support in states where she is already likely to win. That makes sense given the nature of the campaign's central messages and appeals.”

In another Newsweek article, “Donald Trump Is More Popular With Men Than Ever Before,” Reeher explains, “Not much about Trump has changed, so any differences may have more to do with Harris' campaign. Harris and the Democratic campaign have really emphasized the identity aspect of the Democratic Party's messaging, and she's also emphasized her gender in her appeals.”

In The Mirror article, “‘Unhinged’ Donald Trump rants show he’s transforming US into ‘presidential dictatorship’ warns expert,” Reeher says, “Trump has always relied on earned media for a lot of his exposure, and this might be a somewhat calculated, though bizarre, way to try to keep the spotlight on him as the media has turned a lot of their attention to Harris.”
