"Why the US failure in Afghanistan won’t break NATO," authored by Associate Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs Michael John Williams, was published in the Atlantic Council's New Atlanticist blog. According to Williams, the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan is seen by European experts and military planners as a strategic prioritization of challenges. "The situation in Afghanistan is heartbreaking, but it will not break NATO. Nor will it critically undermine U.S. global posture; instead it will prevent strategic insolvency," says Williams. "The United States and its allies can now focus on core strategic issues and can revive NATO’s focus on bolstering credible deterrence across Europe."
