How do secessionist movements formulate strategy and choose tactics? In his article "Secessionist Strategy and Tactical Variation in the Pursuit of Independence," published in the Journal of Global Security Studies, Ryan Griffiths, associate professor of political science, constructs a theoretical framework to clarify the behavior of diverse secessionist movements and accurately predict the tactics they adopt. Griffiths argues that secessionism takes places on a strategic playing field consisting of formal and informal rules and practices for becoming a sovereign state. 03/10/20
