Journal of Contemporary China, November 2017
"Systemic Strengths, Domestic Deficiencies: The Renminbi’s Future as a Reserve Currency," co-authored by Daniel McDowell, assistant professor of political science, was published in the Journal of Contemporary China. In the article, McDowell and his co-authors project the future of China's currency — the renminbi (RMB) — as a global reserve currency. They conclude the RMB is unlikely to take on a significant role in the global reserve system in the medium term due to Chinese political institutions and financial policies that reduce the attractiveness of the RMB as a reserve currency. 11/21/17
