Center for European Studies presents: Dr. Arthur Goldhammer - The French Presidential Election
Dr. Arthur Goldhammer, Center for European Studies, Harvard University (via skype)
The first round of the 2017 French presidential election takes place on 23 April 2017. If no candidate wins a majority (as is likely), a second-round run-off election takes place on 7 May 2017. By April 24, we will have a good idea whether the tide of populism that brought us Brexit and Trump will spread to France. To help us understand what is going on in France, we have the opportunity to listen to and ask questions of one of North America's leading experts on French Politics.
Arthur Goldhammer has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from MIT and has taught at Brandeis University and Boston University. He has translated more than 125 books from French, for which he won numerous awards. His most recent award was for Thomas Piketty's bestseller Capital in the 21st Century. A long-time observer of French politics, Goldhammer regularly contributes commentary on France and French politics on his blog site "French Politics." He writes regularly for The American Prospect, The Nation, Democracy Journal, and Foreign Policy and serves on the editorial boards of The Tocqueville Review and French Politics, Culture, and Society.
