David Gill, Consul General of Germany in New York

Where is Germany Headed? – Policy Developments in Germany Under the New Government

David Gill is currently the Consul General of Germany in New York. Mr. Gill served as the State Secretary and Head of the Office of German President Joachim Gauck from 2012 to 2017. He was previously the Deputy Representative of the Council of the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD) to the Federal Republic of Germany and the EU. Mr. Gill worked as a Desk Officer first at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and then at the Office of Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in Berlin. He studied law at the Free University of Berlin (1992-1996) and earned an LLM degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. Mr. Gill is a 1991 recipient of the Theodor Heuss Medal, a recognition honoring contributions to civil society and democratic development. In 1990, David Gill was Chairman of Normannenstrasse Citizen Committee at the headquarters of the GDR Ministry of State Security – Stasi. He also served as Head of Administration, Parliamentary Committee for the dissolution of the GDR Ministry of State Security.
