Certificates of Advanced Study

Go further into a topic specialization or deepen your regional expertise with a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS). The Maxwell School offers a menu of 12- and 15-credit graduate professional certificates to support your career goals.

CAS fall into two categories:

Stand-alone certificates are open to those who hold a bachelor’s degree regardless of whether they are enrolled in a graduate program. Some are limited to more advanced midcareer students with substantial work experience, others are open to new graduates as noted below.
Concurrent certificates are available only to students who are enrolled in a graduate degree program at Syracuse University and are designed to be earned as part of a master’s program. Some may be limited to those in specific programs, others are open to students enrolled in any graduate program as noted below.

Conflict and Collaboration

Learn conflict management skills you will use every day.

Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis

Gain both theoretical and hands-on training in spatial information technologies.

Data Analytics for Public Policy

Turn data into actionable insights for improving communities, and examine public policy issues of how data is gathered and managed.

Public Leadership and Management

Improve your public management and leadership skills or develop concrete knowledge of a specific policy area through this rigorous academic program.

Leadership of International and Non-Governmental Organizations

Grow your ability to lead international and non-governmental organizations involved in functions previously managed by national governments including: service delivery, poverty reduction, conflict management and corruption prevention.

Civil Society Organizations

Prepare for careers in NGO management, service delivery and advocacy, or an academic career focusing on better understanding the impacts, challenges and functions of NGOs in global governance.
