"For more than 150 years, the Iranian people have been fighting for their rights and freedoms. Although some progress has been made, these struggles encountered serious obstacles, especially after the collapse of the monarchy and the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979. Although this turnaround was brought about by a popular revolution, it has fundamentally failed and to some extent reversed the course of history," writes University Professor Hamid Ekbia.
In his article "Revolution, Reform, Reversal: The Case of Iran," published in Geschichte der Gegenwart, Ekbia attempts to explain this "strange turn of events with a series of 'co-optations' that have undermined Iran's quest for peace, freedom, and prosperity."
