Kelly Flannery ’00 BA (IR) has been named one of 12 trailblazing women in public finance by The Bond Buyer, a trade publication widely read by finance professionals.
Having spent more than 19 years in public finance, Flannery currently serves as the chief financial officer for the City of Charlotte, N.C. She previously spent a decade working for the City of Chicago, serving as senior fiscal policy analyst, assistant budget director, and deputy chief financial officer. She was also a senior municipal bond analyst for Mergent, a business and financial information services firm and earned an MPA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Flannery — a member of the Maxwell School’s Advisory Board — was selected as one of the 12 women working in both the public and private sector who have made a substantial mark on the industry through their work around the United States. Inspired by advancing the public good, Flannery oversees a budget of more than $2 billion and works to balance the diverse needs of residents across Charlotte.
The Bond Buyer and Northeast Women in Public Finance (NEWPF) work together to present annual awards that honor trailblazing women in public finance. NEWPF is a nonprofit professional organization that offers educational, networking, and mentoring opportunities to its members in order to enhance their careers in public finance. The Bond Buyer is an independent resource for the municipal finance community, reaching more than 40,000 professionals through both print and online editions.
