Morgan Weighs in on Boris Johnson’s Departure, Impact on Ukraine in CNN Article

Boris Johnson is stepping down as U.K. Prime Minister and Ukrainians fear the U.K.'s support for the country might start to dwindle. Johnson has been one of the most vocal supporters of Ukraine as it tries to defend itself against Russia’s unprovoked assault. But Glyn Morgan, associate professor of political science, questions Johnson’s motivations.
“If one were cynical, one might think that Johnson’s commitment to Ukraine reflected a shameless effort to distract attention from his longstanding relationships with Russian business interests and his crumbling popularity in the U.K. at the time,” he says.
“If one were romantic, one might think that Johnson’s commitment to Ukraine reflected a very British fondness for the underdog, the plucky hero standing against the larger bully. Johnson is nothing if not a romantic, who sees himself as the hero in an epic.”
