President Joe Biden is set to face off against Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. One significant point of difference between them is U.S. foreign policy. Biden has spoken of his committment to NATO and military aid to Ukraine, while Trump isn't particularly interested in international politics—even stating he would end NATO's mutual defense pledge.

Trump’s return to the White House would mark a radical change from Biden’s multilateralism, Grant Reeher, professor of political science and director of the Campbell Public Affairs Institute, tells El País. “[There would be] an emphasis on bilateral rather than multilateral relations, and a general reduction in American involvement in international affairs,” he says.

Reeher was also quoted in the Newsweek article, “Donald Trump Wants to Change a 40-Year Trend.”

“Even though Governor Hochul's election against Zeldin was much closer than it should have been, and Zeldin is a Trump supporter, the anti-Trump feeling in New York is particularly intense, rivaled only by the likes of California and Vermont,” says Reeher. “Trump won't get any Democrats to speak of and will have a very tough time with independents.”
