Zwick discusses Uber, Lyft drivers strike in Agence France Presse

Austin Zwick, assistant teaching professor of public affairs, says the job actions are an attempt to shift the balance of power between drivers and platforms, which now have the power to arbitrarily determine compensation and benefits. "The joint strike plus boycott strategy appear unlikely to succeed nationally as it does not appear that all drivers and passengers are unified behind the cause."

Lovely testifies before US-China Commission on US corps in China

On February 28, 2019, Professor Mary Lovely testified before the U.S.-China Commission on the "Risks, Rewards, and Results: U.S. Companies in China and Chinese Companies in the United States." "Removing barriers for American companies providing knowledge intensive goods and services in a Chinese market will expand employment opportunities here at home," Lovely told the Commission. "While we often see multinationals as the chief villains in the rapid decline of U.S. manufacturing employment, they remain an important source of U.S. manufacturing jobs. Multinationals constitute only 4 percent of all manufacturing firms, but they provide 51 percent of manufacturing employment," she added. "So these firms are important. And what happens to them in their operations abroad is important for what happens here at home."

Purser cited in Albany Times Union article on state dairy worker injuries

The Albany Times Union article, "Two-thirds of dairy workers have been injured at least once, report finds," features Gretchen Purser's recently released report, "Milked: Dairy Farmworkers in New York," that looks at the treatment and working conditions of immigrant laborers who work in milking parlors and barns in New York State. “The rates of injury were far higher than we expected,” Purser told the Times Union. “That was stunning.” 07/11/17
