The scholarships were founded as a tribute to—and means of remembering—the 35 students who were killed in the Dec. 21, 1988, bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, and are funded through an endowment supported by gifts from alumni, friends, parents and corporations. 

Syracuse University held the third annual One University Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 12, 2019, in Hendricks Chapel, honoring dozens of members of the University community for their scholarship, teaching, academic achievement, leadership and service.

The Senior Class Marshals exemplify what it means to be Orange as well-rounded leaders who have excelled academically and co-curricularly, all while engaging on campus and beyond through research, service and leadership opportunities. “I am most looking forward to forming new and strengthening existing connections throughout campus,” Rosenblum says.

Tricia Russell ’05 B.A. (PSt/PSc) is chief of staff for Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey. She was formerly chief of staff for U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer and Representative Steve Israel.

Dina Eldawy, Crystal Letona, Danielle Schaf and Nathan Shearn were among the twelve seniors named as the 2019 Syracuse University Scholars, the highest undergraduate honor that the University bestows.

Tammy Berendzen '94 BA (PSt/PSc) was named one of The New Mexican’s 10 Who Made a Difference for 2018. Berendzen, president of the Santa Fe Skating Club, has been the central figure in helping solidify the skating club — and growing the sport — among both the young and old in a high-desert town.

Tajanae (Taj) Harris '20 B.A. (Anth) and Marcus Lane '19 B.A. (PSt) received the the Mark and Pearle Clements Internship Award, which enables Syracuse University students to undertake unique internships that wouldn't be possible without financial help.

The new mayor, Ben Walsh '05 M.P.A., highlights the number of alumni in Syracuse city and Onondaga County government.

Kevin Treadway, a freshman history and political science major, and Janaisa Walker, a sophomore policy studies major, have been named as student cultural ambassadors through the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission’s U.K. Summer Institute program. Treadway will travel to Wales to study Welsh identity and nationhood at Aberystwyth University, while Walker will study at the University of Westminster in England, in a program focused on developing leadership skills for a global age.
