Heather Newton heads mental illness organization in Rochester

Heather Newton ’96 MPA was named executive director of the Rochester Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), a grassroots mental health organization. NAMI advocates, educates, and develops policy aimed at improving mental health in the United States
Before joining NAMI, Newton was the director of development and community engagement for Foodlink in Rochester, NY. She also has extensive experience in higher education, serving as director of admissions for the Nichols School in Buffalo, N.Y., and associate director of admissions for the Yale University School Forestry & Environmental Studies in New Haven, Conn.
“Each time a person has the courage to speak up and share their story, the shame and silence around mental illness is diminished,” Newton notes in her company bio. “I am honored to have been selected to lead NAMI Rochester’s efforts to end stigma and provide support and education to those who need it.”
