In his new book, "Bucking the Buck: US Financial Sanctions and the International Backlash Against the Dollar" (Oxford University Press, 2023), Daniel McDowell, associate professor of political science, seeks to establish a clear relationship between the heightened use of financial sanctions and the rise of "anti-dollar" policies designed to reduce an economy's reliance on the U.S. currency.
