Stephanie Smith '09 PhD (PA) has joined the faculty of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, serving as an associate professor in Virginia Tech’s Center for Public Administration and Policy.

Smith, whose research engages with setting the agenda for addressing neglected health issues both globally and specifically within lower income countries, has been published in leading journals including The Lancet. Her work has been funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Save the Children USA, and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development.

Prior to joining the faculty at Virginia Tech, Smith was an associate professor at the University of New Mexico. She has also worked in the nonprofit sector in San Francisco and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Vladivostok, Russia, prior to her return to academia.
