95-Year-Old Maxwell School Welcomes its First Freshman Class
Beginning this fall, for the first time ever, students planning to major in the social sciences applied and were admitted directly to the Maxwell School. Prior to this, students applied to A&S, and they became a Maxwell student only if they declared a Maxwell major, usually sometime around the end of their sophomore year.

Big Data and PA Careers
“There’s been an explosion in the quantity and forms of data available to support organizational decision making,” says Robert Bifulco, chair of public administration and international affairs. Assistant Professor Matthew M. Young asserts that soon, all public administration employees will be expected to have data analysis skills.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) program's reputation and Washington location provide Maxwell students and faculty regular access to a range of leaders and practitioners—to an extent not feasible in Syracuse,” says University Professor and Phanstiel Chair Sean O’Keefe ’78 M.P.A., who is charged with developing opportunities to further nurture Maxwell/CSIS collaboration.

Universities traditionally aim “to train minds and to strengthen character” and “to transmit the accumulated learning and culture of ages on to each rising generation,” said former president Herbert Hoover, at the dedication of Maxwell Hall. "This institution especially has led in endeavor to lift public administration to a profession,” he added.
