Derek Slap sworn in as Connecticut State Senator

Derek Slap ’95 BA (IR) was recently sworn in as a Democratic state senator for the 5th State Senate District of Connecticut. The 5th State Senate District encompasses the towns of West Hartford, Farmington, Burlington, and a portion of Bloomfield. Slap serves a constituency of nearly 98,000 people. He previously served as a state representative for State House District 19.
Slap is also the vice president of marketing and communications at the UConn Foundation and a lecturer in political science at Yale University. Before running for office, Slap served as chief of staff and director of communications for the Senate Democratic Caucus. He also worked in television for many years as a news anchor and reporter for NBC Connecticut.
