Despite its size, Syracuse asserts “a larger dreaming of possibilities, punching above their weight, acting like a bigger city,” says Austin Zwick, associate teaching professor of policy studies. “[There's been] a real alignment and agreement between multiple levels of government...for the last 10 years or so,” he says.

Proposition One “would add sex and gender to the non-discrimination provisions of New York's constitution” and would expand protections beyond a person’s biological sex, “to include orientation, gender identity and gender expression,” says Thomas Keck, Michael O. Sawyer Chair of Constitutional Law and Politics.

“In some ways, you almost have two generic candidates running, one more conservative and one sort of more mainstream. And you’ve got a district that just seems more built for people who are closer to the center, in either party,” says Grant Reeher, professor of political science.

“You have two states that [we]re the same, were pretty middle-of-the-road in terms of life expectancy, but they take opposite trajectories,” says University Professor Jennifer Karas Montez. Some states, she says, took action to “invest in [the state] population’s overall economic well-being and health. And you had other states that took a...very different approach.”

Using a 40-year panel dataset from Texas, Yilin Hou and co-author identify leader municipalities in changing sales tax rates and examine how municipalities asymmetrically respond to multi-tiered rate changes. Published in Fiscal Studies: The Journal of Applied Public Economics.

The agreement will further cooperation on veterans and military programs, workshops, training and international engagements.

“Because the district [New York District 22] was slightly redistricted in a way that made it somewhat more favorable to Democrats and because of the nature of the two candidates in this race, I would say that Mannion would probably be the favorite in this race,” says Grant Reeher, professor of political science.

This university-government-nonprofit collaborative research project aims to better understand how civil servants access and use evidence in their decision-making process. Published in Public Administration Review.
