The new Veterans in Politics program is designed to help veterans and military family members who aspire to public office or another form of a political career.

“The UPA program in Washington is a great two-way learning experience,” said Grant Reeher, professor of political science and director of the Campbell Public Affairs Institute. “I easily learn as much from the participants as they glean from me.”

Uzbekistan Ambassador to the United States Javlon Vahobov and senior officers from the Uzbekistan Embassy met Monday with Syracuse University officials to discuss educational partnerships between their country, the Maxwell School, and the School of Information Studies (iSchool). The visit included meetings with leadership of both schools, a tour of campus, and meetings with students.

Since 2007, the U.S. State Department has funded Maxwell to host up-and-coming Middle Eastern leaders and academics interested in bringing democratic traditions back to their homelands. Little did anyone guess how quickly and dramatically democracy would assert itself throughout that region — where these special Maxwell alumni have sometimes played direct roles.

The collaboration between Maxwell and its hometown goes both ways.
